The Second Annual Cars & Cures Car Show and Family Fun Day took place at Mill Creek Automotive and Mill Creek Brewery. Arts Unbound, a gallery and studio dedicated to artists with disabilities, partnered with Opulent Mobility to host their annual exhibition. The show featured more than thirty artworks by artists from around the glove with re-imaginings of mobility and devices used by people with disabilities in the form of sculpture, photography and painting, collage and video. Shangri-La and Salem Ale Works teamed up to host the fourth annual Capital City Cornhole Classic on Saturday, Sept. 7 on the lawn of the State Capitol. This friendly-competition tournament featured over 30 lanes of cornhole – a popular backyard game that involves throwing corn or resin-filled bags at a raised platform with a hole in it 27 feet away. The Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Group hosted 2 events, one at Honeyman State Park and the other at Milo McIver State Park. Each event was hosted by Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection and Adventures Without Limits (AWL). They partnered with Oregon Parks and Rec Department (OPRD) and Oregon Health and Outdoors Initiative. OPRD modified group sites to be accessible for their needs, by removing one side/bench of picnic tables so more than one person in a wheelchair could eat together, by providing a 6’x10′ mat table for people to change, by…

Minnesota Spinal Cord Injury Association hosted a day of Adaptive Demo Sports. At the event, they had an adaptive kayak, adaptive biking, archery, and geocaching demo. They had twenty-six participants with spinal cord injuries, one with spina bifida, and one stroke survivor. Plus, there were a bunch of family members and caregivers. The United Spinal Houston Chapter welcomed over 250 guests, representing a wide cross-section of the very diverse Houston community. They highlighted 12 artists (all United Spinal Houston members), each presenting 2-4 personal art pieces. The event was held at Sabine Street Studios in the heart of the Houston art hub. The event brought wide-spread awareness of the creativity, ability, and courage of our United Spinal Houston community. Fashion Is For Every Body presented On the Runway, Nashville’s only fully inclusive, body-positive fashion runway show on Saturday, September 7th. This year’s theme was “Representation Matters,” it summarizes Fashion Is For Every Body’s most diverse runway to date. The show featured 35 adult models of all ages, sizes, physical abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. An audience of 228 people witnessed six wheelchair dependent models in the most uplifting, mainstreamed, inclusive manner possible. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Camp Twin Lakes and the Spina Bifida Association of Georgia partnered to offer Camp Krazy Legs. This overnight summer camp is for children and teens with spina bifida. The Numotion Foundation helped support the summer camp. While at camp, the kids make new friends, learn self-care and practice independent living skills while experiencing typical camp activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, games and other activities.
