In early February, the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Blackhawks hosted the 2018-2019 USA Hockey Sled Classic — and defeated the Colorado Avalanche 8-2 in the championship game. As champions, the Blackhawks keep their claim on the O’Connor Courage Trophy. Players’ names are inscribed on the trophy, which is housed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. Thirty teams participated in the tournament and each was sponsored by an NHL team from across the country. There were over five hundred attendees, including players, volunteers and the general public.
The Numotion Foundation joined others who contributed to the ninth edition of this event. The Shirley AblilityLab sled hockey program was formed in the fall of 1999 and is comprised of two teams: a traveling competitive team and a developmental team for up and coming athletes who wish to learn and develop their sled hockey skills as well as hone their talents are area competitions.
