11th Annual Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida

The Numotion Foundation provided support to the 11th Annual Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida hosted by the Spina Bifida Association of New York State (SBANYS). In addition to being a major fundraiser for SBANYS, the Walk-N-Roll is a celebration of the Spina Bifida community. It is a chance for individuals impacted by the condition to raise awareness about Spina Bifida, network with peers and vendors, and ultimately have fun.

SBANYS is the sole affiliate chapter of the Spina Bifida Association of America serving the estimated 4,000 individuals living with Spina Bifida in NYS, their caregivers, and professional supports. Their services include responding to requests for information/referrals, education outreach, advocacy and awareness initiatives, peer support, systems navigation, and programming. These services are available statewide, at no cost, and benefit individuals living with Spina Bifida across the lifespan. Funds raised at the Walk-N-Roll support the programs and services provided by SBANYS that benefit the Spina Bifida community.

Spina Bifida is a birth defect that occurs in the first month of pregnancy when the spinal column does not close or form properly, leaving nerves exposed and resulting in damage to the spinal cord. Those who are born with Spina Bifida often live with mobility limitations including paralysis, often requiring the use of assistive devices (orthotics, crutches, wheelchairs), bladder, bowel, and gastrointestinal disorders, Hydrocephalus, mental health, executive dysfunction and learning disabilities and are at greater risk for obesity and latex allergy. We know the earlier a person with Spina Bifida receives care, support, and education, the more capable they are to face these challenges.
